The Laurel Foundation Fund Raiser February 24, 2011

The Laurel Foundation Fund RaiserOur Fund Raiser, to benefit The Hope for Freedom Society’s outreach psychiatric nurse program was a high point of the Tri Cities social scene, and resulted in a donation of $6,000.

Held in the imposing Port Moody Galleria, the evening started off with a complimentary wine tasting experience, thanks to the wines introduced and poured by the Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery, Salt Spring Winery and the Neck of the Woods Winery. Superb beers were "on tap" graciously hosted by Turning Point Brewery, Russell Brewery, and the Granville Island Brewery. Their contribution and support is appreciated.

The silent auction was rich and varied with contributions and gift certificates from, Newport Village Meats, The Village Toy Shop in Port Moody, St. James’s Well Olde Irish Pub, Brownssocialhouse, francis and hawthorne, Dianne Blackburn –Remax, Robert and Camille Tribe, Chris Sedergreen and Elaine Willis. Our grateful thanks for their support.

This was followed by a gourmet meal, made up of food sourced from within 100 miles, prepared by the Pasta Polo team. Anne and Roy Slater, talented Tri City musicians, volunteered their skills to play outstanding music as an accompaniment to the wine tasting and meal.

A performance by 5 members of the professional Stand Up for Mental Health Comedy Group closed out the festivities. Their self deprecating routines, relating to personal involvements with mental health issues, were hilarious, spell binding, educational and yet bittersweet, as they reflected on Society’s lack of awareness, apathy, and responses to their challenges.

Our thanks to the 80 guests who supported the cause by their presence, and their enthusiastic bidding on silent auction items.

Without our sponsors, guests and volunteers, the evening would not have been possible. Thanks to all for helping to improve the mental health and quality of life of homeless men and women in our community.
