The goal of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of a comprehensive self-determination curriculum that was developed by CBI Consultants, Ltd. and was provided to 62 adolescents (ages 15-18, 58% male) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (DDs).

Discussion Series – SFU ADDL

The Laurel Foundation, together with the Autism and Developmental Disorders Lab at SFU, co-hosted 3 community events, the themes were: Families and School, Families and Mental Health, Families and Transitions.

The aim of these events was to facilitate discussion among a range of stakeholders, including individuals and their families, researchers, and professionals about important Quality of Life issues. These events were free and open to the public. During the events families were given an opportunity to participate in the ADDL research in ASD & Family Quality of Life lead by Dr Grace Iarocci and Emily Gardner, Doctoral Candidate.

On April 5th 2013, The Psychology Department at Simon Fraser University held an important interactive session to discuss quality of life among families of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

The focus was on parental responsibilities for these families, which are often very demanding and unrelenting, with no end in sight. They are the forgotten players in a social support system with many gaps.

Our Fund Raiser, to benefit The Hope for Freedom Society’s outreach psychiatric nurse program was a high point of the Tri Cities social scene, and resulted in a donation of $6,000.

Held in the imposing Port Moody Galleria, the evening started off with a complimentary wine tasting experience, thanks to the wines introduced and poured by the Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery, Salt Spring Winery and the Neck of the Woods Winery. Superb beers were "on tap" graciously hosted by Turning Point Brewery, Russell Brewery, and the Granville Island Brewery. Their contribution and support is appreciated.
